Description:
The 4020 Automotive Reducer helps dry in wet conditions.
4020 is a special additive, it does not replace 4011, the standard thinner for all Createx Colors paints.
4020 works best by mixing it with 4011 to create a cocktail thinner. It is not recommended to dilute Createx paints with 4020 alone, as the paint can dry prematurely, creating dry paint chips.
4020 is best added to 4011 in small portions. Excessive amounts of 4020 can create adverse reactions ("solvent explosion") when paint is coated with a catalyzed varnish, especially when applying heavier coats with a spray gun.
Mixing ratios for adding 4020 to 4011 vary, but are generally:
Airbrush: Mix 4011 1: 1 4020
Gun: Mix 4011 3: 1 4020
4020 can be used to clean surfaces of oils before painting. Cleaning substrates such as plastics with 4020 before painting ensures application on a clean surface. Allow sufficient time for 4020 to completely dry the substrate before applying paint.
Shelf life and storage:
After adding 4020, there is no shelf life. However, the acetone in 4020 quickly drives the water out of the paint, so if left open, the paint will thicken due to accelerated evaporation.
Just add 4020 to the paint intended to be used that day. Long-term storage of paint mixed with 4020 is not recommended.
4011/4020 diluent blends can be stored tightly in an LDPE (low density polyethylene) bottle. Keep in a cool and dry environment, away from heat sources.
Drying times:
Estimated drying times are set at 70 degrees F and 65% or less relative humidity (RH).
To shorten drying times in conditions of 70% relative humidity or higher, add 4020 to 4011, and use a hot air dryer.
