Actual aluminum-flake colors often used as base for 4600 Series Candy Colors. Highly reflective - more so than 4300 Series silvers. Best applied over 4002 Sealer Dark or an underlying coat of Auto Air, not direct to the substrate. Aluminum Bases are may require a longer period to cure than what is required for most other Auto Air Colors due to coating used to prevent aluminum from gassing. Use of mid-coat prior to aggressive masking for graphics may prevent peeling. Mid-coat may be of a urethane inter-coat clear or Auto Air 4004 Transparent Base. Use of mid-coat may not be necessary, especially if Aluminum Base Colors are thoroughly cured. Intended for application with a spray gun or large tip-sized airbrush.

Graphic colors intended for base colors and large applications where complete coverage is desired. Best applied over a 4000 Sealer. Most colors applied over 4001 Sealer White for a brighter value. Apply Deep Black and darker colors over 4002 Sealer Dark. Not intended for fine, detailed artwork with a small tip-sized airbrush. Contains fillers for opacity which prevent fine atomization at reduced pressures. Use as a color-keyed base for 4500 Series Sparklescent Color or 4300 Series Pearlescent Color. Semi- Opaque base reduces the amount of material required for a pearlized finish as the pearl color covers quicker in fewer coats than when used as a base color. Color- keying a base with a more expensive pearl mid-coat not only saves material, but it also reduces curing times. Excess coats of a pearl color applied as a base color for coverage require over a white sealer require a longer drying period than a few light coats over a Semi-Opaque base color. On average, Semi-opaque Colors dry faster than do 4300 and 4500 Series Colors due to the higher solids content in the Semi-Opaque Colors. Except for 4330 & 4331 Metallic Whites, all Metallic Colors may also be applied over 4002 Sealer Dark for a darker hued color with more reflection. 4340 Metallic Midnight Blue is best applied over 4002 Sealer Dark. Apply 4332 Metallic Silver over either Sealer Dark or a grey sealer made by mixing Sealer White & Dark. Metallic Colors make excellent bases for 4600 Series Candy Colors. 4331 Metallic White (coarse) is used for many of the lighter 4600 Series Candy- Pigment color references. 4330 & 4331 Metallic Whites are a blue-cast metallic white. Accent pearl-flakes with a slight color shift from the respective color to nothing on the side-cast view. Apply over any base color for slight pearl accents. Use sparingly. A little of this color goes a long way. For example, one quart will be enough for an entire mid-coat on a full size SUV. One or two dust coats is all that is required. If too much material is applied, the color turns to a pastel and the effect is lost. Colors are concentrated. Extending color by mixing with 4004 Auto Air Transparent Base adds more base, which allows for an easier application when painting large areas. Hi-Lite Blue over 4330 & 4331 metallic White is a killer accent, especially over contoured surfaces such as flared fenders. Use very sparingly for this to work well. Hi-Lite Gold is a great accent pearl to most colors, especially 4301 Pearl White. Use very sparingly. A test panel is strongly recommended to determine finish and amount of Hi-Lite Color required for accent. Hi- Lite's effects not visible until after top-coat clear is applied. Extremely pearlescent, candied colors with tremendous depth - these are the best pearl colors available in any paint system without a doubt. They not only great pearl effects but they have a hue shift over contoured surface and changes in direct to side- cast views, creating a "candied" finish. Best used as a mid-coat color over a color keyed base color or tinted 4001 Sealer White. Sparklescent Colors are translucent and require on average 5 - 6 coats when applied over a white base. Use as a mid-coat over a color-keyed base reduces the number of coats on average to 2 - 3 coats and allows each coat to be applied lighter which decreases curing time. Sparklescent Colors are a mix of the 4200 Series Transparent Colors, 4400 Series Gem Colors and a 4500 Series Cosmic or Hot Rod Sparkle Color. Use of a Gem Color as a graphic color over the Sparklescent Colors creates a perfect ghosted graphic color. Refer to chart for color combinations - Auto Air Colors Blend Chart. Extra coats of clear is required to bridge over pearl-flakes in Sparklescent Colors. Bada Bling Silver(TM) is a very transparent silver which is great for blending and transitions.
